Abbas presented to Haniyeh a political vision that will be presented during the meeting of the general secretaries of Palestinian groups in Cairo at the end of this month. This occurred before they met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Al-Jazeera.

The channel quoted undisclosed sources, saying that President Abbas assured Haniyeh that the plan would be based on international legitimacy and that everyone should join the PLO, stressing his commitment to the option of peaceful resistance.

Haniyeh informed Abbas that Hamas is targeting the occupation and that it is not interested in attacking or overthrowing the Palestinian Authority (PA), and that his movement adopts resistance in all its forms and does not accept the formula of committing to international legitimacy.

Abbas also rejected Haniyeh’s request for the urgent release of Palestinian detainees ahead of the meeting of general secretaries of Palestinian groups in Cairo next week.

Frank and in-depth discussionIn a statement, a member of the political bureau of Hamas, Husam Badran, said, "The meeting witnessed a frank and in-depth discussion, and came within the framework of completing the movement's consultations with various Palestinian forces and factions, with the aim of preparing well for the meeting of the general secretaries scheduled to take place on July 29 and 30 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo."

The attendees agreed to the need to unify national efforts to confront the dangers looming over the Palestinian cause, especially the projects of the extremist Zionist government that wants to swallow up the land, expand settlements, and control the capabilities of Palestinian people; and at the forefront of that is the main danger related to the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem

Badran said: "Hamas confirmed that comprehensive resistance is the most effective way to confront the occupation and the dangers surrounding the issue."  He continued, "We emphasized that the outputs of the meeting of general secertaries must be commensurate with the aspirations and hopes of our people. Therefore, good preparation is required for this meeting, with the need to create field conditions for its success.
