In a press statement on Tuesday, the organization expressed deep outrage over the treatment endured by medical personnel and detainees held in inhumane conditions without legal justification, voicing its solidarity with international calls demanding their immediate release.

MSF noted that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, remains in solitary confinement a year and a half after his arrest. The organization emphasized that his detention and torture form part of a pattern targeting medical personnel across the Palestinian territories.

Citing data from the Healthcare Workers Watch, MSF highlighted that approximately 95 Palestinian healthcare workers have remained in Israeli custody since October 2023, adding that 1,700 medical personnel—including 15 MSF staff members—have been killed during the same period.

The statement underscored the ongoing detention of MSF orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mohammed Obeid for over 600 days under severe conditions and without contact with his family, following his arrest while performing his medical duties at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza on October 26, 2024.

The organization reiterated its absolute rejection of arbitrary detention policies and violations targeted at medical teams, criticizing what it described as international silence and failure to condemn these practices.

MSF stressed the necessity of the immediate and unconditional release of all detained medical personnel, while demanding that they be provided with adequate medical care and humane detention conditions preserving their dignity until their release.
