The discussions took place on the sidelines of their visits to Washington, where the two officials also explored ways to strengthen Jordanian-Iraqi relations and expand cooperation across various economic and development sectors.

The meeting also covered regional and international developments, with both sides exchanging views on key issues of mutual interest. Safadi and Al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of enhancing security and stability across the region and reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the preferred means of resolving crises.

During the meeting, Safadi conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the Iraqi Prime Minister and delivered the King’s invitation for him to visit Jordan. Al-Zaidi, in turn, conveyed his greetings to King Abdullah II.

Part of the meeting was attended by Tom Barrack, United States Ambassador to Türkiye and the U.S. Presidential Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq. The participants discussed opportunities for trilateral cooperation between Jordan, Iraq, and the United States in several areas of mutual economic interest, with the aim of advancing the shared interests of the three countries.

The Basra–Aqaba Oil Pipeline Project is planned to extend approximately 1,600 kilometers. The first section will run from Rumaila to Haditha inside Iraq over a distance of approximately 700 kilometers, with a design capacity of 2.25 million barrels per day. The second section will extend from Haditha to Aqaba inside Jordan over a distance of 900 kilometers, with a design capacity of 1 million barrels per day.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the Iraqi-Jordanian crude oil export pipeline project in July 2019, paving the way for the construction of a pipeline transporting crude oil from the Rumaila oil fields in Basra Governorate to the Port of Aqaba.
