The U.S. military announced on Wednesday that it successfully prevented ten ships from sailing from Iranian ports during the first 48 hours of the naval blockade imposed on Iran.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X: “Ten vessels were turned back, and no ship has been able to pass since the U.S. blockade began on Monday.”
CENTCOM had earlier reported that nine ships had turned back, later adding that a tenth vessel was “redirected” to Iran by a U.S. guided-missile destroyer.
However, maritime tracking data released on Tuesday indicated that at least three vessels departed from Iranian ports and passed through the Strait of Hormuz, although some ships that took this route later turned back.
Iranian armed forces effectively closed the strait after the start of the U.S.-Israeli air campaign against Iran on February 28, and the United States announced on Sunday the imposition of a blockade on Iranian ports following the failure of peace talks with Tehran in Islamabad.
