The Ministry's Secretary-General, Dana Zoubi, stated in a press release on Saturday that the final consultative workshop marked a key milestone in the process of updating the National E-Commerce Strategy. It brought together a select group of stakeholders and experts to discuss and review the proposed strategic directions and to verify their alignment with national priorities and the rapid changes occurring in the digital trade sector at both local and regional levels.
She explained that the consultation efforts began at the start of this year and continued over the past months through a series of technical meetings, consultative sessions, and interviews with stakeholders. The objective was to assess the progress made in implementing the first phase of the strategy, monitor emerging challenges and opportunities, and define strategic priorities for the upcoming phase.
Zoubi added that today’s workshop represents a pivotal juncture in this path, contributing to the validation of the proposed strategic direction for the National E-Commerce Strategy over the next three years. This will enhance Jordan's readiness to capitalize on the opportunities offered by digital trade and solidify its position within the digital economy on both regional and global levels.
She noted that the second phase of the strategy focuses on strengthening the enabling environment for cross-border e-commerce, increasing its contribution to exports, supporting innovation and digital transformation, and enhancing the regulatory environment for conducting e-commerce and related policies. Additionally, it aims to boost the digital competitiveness of Jordanian companies—particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs)—and enable them to access global markets.
This effort falls within the framework of the E-Commerce and Digital Trade in the Southern Mediterranean Countries project, funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The project aims to strengthen the digital trade ecosystem in Jordan and the region by developing policies, building a competitive advantage, and fostering cooperation among various relevant stakeholders.
The ministry emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination among different partners to ensure the effective implementation of the strategy and to achieve a tangible impact that contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and supporting sustainable economic growth.
