Washington — A new analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has revealed that the war with Iran has cost the U.S. administration about $40 billion.

According to the center, this amount includes the cost of ammunition, destroyed equipment, and damage to military bases.
However, the think tank explained to CNN that this figure does not include the pre-calculated operational costs within the Pentagon's budget for fiscal year 2026, which exceed $1 trillion.
The New York Times previously quoted informed sources in March as saying that Washington spent more than $11 billion in the first six days of the war alone.
The newspaper reported at the time that members of Congress were told that the figure did not include many other costs associated with preparing for the strikes, suggesting that the amount exceeded the figure.
The White House has avoided providing estimates of the cost of the war during the fighting, but a May 1 report by CBS said it had reached $50 billion by that date.
This was contradicted by the Pentagon, which announced on May 12 that the cost of the war had not exceeded $29 billion to date.
The cost of the U.S. war on Iran is a matter of great controversy in American political circles, and the controversy over it has intensified after the Trump administration moved to raise the war appropriations, which faced criticism from lawmakers in both the Democratic and Republican parties, who complained about the permanent absence of financial accountability for the War Department.
The Trump administration's request for additional $200 billion in war funding in March was met with strong opposition in Congress.
Democratic Rep. Betty McCollum called the War Department dealing with a "persistent lack of transparency" and called for more clarity before Congress approves an increase in the war budget.
