U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz announced on Tuesday that Washington, in cooperation with Gulf countries, is working on drafting a new resolution addressing developments in the Strait of Hormuz.

Waltz explained that the draft resolution aims to condemn Iran over its closure of the strait, noting that such actions impact global economies.
He added that the proposal would also condemn Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the strait, as well as other activities including the laying of mines and the imposition of fees in the area.
The U.S. envoy emphasized that the draft would seek to hold Iran accountable for what he described as violations of international law, in addition to demanding the disclosure of the locations of mines planted in the strait.
Waltz further stated that the United States is working to ensure that international waterways cannot be used as a weapon, stressing that the administration of Donald Trump is committed to guaranteeing safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
It is worth noting that since late February, Iranian forces have effectively continued to close the strait—through which roughly one-fifth of global oil and gas shipments pass—disrupting the flow of key supplies including oil, gas, and fertilizers.
Meanwhile, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports since April 13, which remains in effect.
