In a statement carried by the Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC reported: "The oil tanker 'Prima' was struck by an explosive drone after ignoring repeated warnings from the IRGC Naval Forces regarding the maritime blockade and the lack of security in the Strait of Hormuz."
The IRGC stated it is "waiting" for US forces intended to escort commercial vessels through the strategic strait, where maritime traffic has been nearly paralyzed amid the ongoing conflict.
Commenting on US Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s announcement that the US Navy is preparing to escort ships, IRGC spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naeini said, "We are waiting for them." According to Fars News Agency, he added, "We advise the Americans, before making any decision, to remember the fire that targeted the giant US tanker Bridgeton in 1987, as well as the tankers targeted recently."
Since Saturday, February 28, Israel and the United States have been conducting airstrikes on Iran, which led to the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has retaliated by striking Israel and regional countries with missiles and drones. Iran has also enforced a maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, targeting tankers attempting to transit.
On Sunday, March 1, Hezbollah launched rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel in retaliation for Khamenei's assassination, drawing Lebanon into an open war characterized by devastating Israeli raids on southern Lebanon and the Southern Suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh). — ( AFP)
