Guterres highlighted that approximately 700 million people worldwide live in extreme poverty, while millions lack any form of social protection, describing this situation as “regrettable and unacceptable in today’s world.”
He called on the international community to agree on a plan to mobilize $1.3 trillion annually to finance climate action in developing countries, stressing that global solidarity and equitable financing are fundamental to achieving social justice and sustainable development.
