Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tuesday that the ball is now in the United States’ court to avoid war, as a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran and Washington remain far from reaching an agreement to end the war.اضافة اعلان

Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator, said in a televised address that Iran is fully prepared for battle, while having delivered what he described as a “strong and rational” response to the United States.

“Regional countries should know that while the Islamic Republic of Iran stands ready for battle with its finger on the trigger, it has also delivered a strong and rational response to the American side,” Ghalibaf said, adding that “the ball is now in the United States’ court to avoid war.”

Meanwhile, Reuters quoted a senior Iranian official as saying that reaching an agreement between Iran and the United States remains out of reach despite intensive efforts by mediators to narrow the differences between Tehran and Washington.

The official said Tehran would not accept what he described as “excessive” U.S. demands, stressing that Iran’s conditions must be met if the United States wants the Strait of Hormuz reopened.

He explained that nuclear talks could begin once those conditions are met.

The official warned that Iran is prepared to respond forcefully to U.S. strikes, both in the region and beyond, as disagreements between the two countries continue over reaching an agreement to end the war.
