A Reuters-Ipsos poll completed on Monday showed that U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating remained near its record low, while a large share of American voters said they viewed their vote in Tuesday’s congressional elections as a way to oppose the Republican president.اضافة اعلان

The five-day nationwide poll indicated that the race between Democrats and Republicans could tighten ahead of Election Day.

About 46% of registered voters surveyed said they would vote for Democrats in the congressional elections, compared with 38% who chose Republicans.

The Democrats’ eight-point lead was narrower than in the Reuters-Ipsos poll conducted a week earlier, when they held an 11-point advantage.

About 32% of respondents said they approved of Trump’s performance in the White House, unchanged from the previous week and slightly above his record low of 31% recorded two weeks ago.

Among registered voters, roughly 50% of independents said they considered their congressional vote to be a vote against Trump, compared with 13% who said it was a vote in support of him. Another 33% said the president was not a factor in their voting decision.

The latest Reuters-Ipsos poll surveyed 1,765 adults online and had a margin of error of two percentage points.
