Water situation assuredly positive for summer season — ministry

AMMAN — Omar Salama, spokesperson and assistant secretary-general of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, has confirmed that the water situation in Jordan is looking up for the upcoming summer season.  According to Hala news, Salama assured that this year's rainy season is expected to bring about positive changes to Jordan's water reserves. Salama noted that this year's rainy season has increased the storage capacity of Jordan's reservoirs. This will strengthen the water situation in the country during the upcoming summer season, which is expected to face fewer challenges than in previous years.  Salama acknowledged that there may still be some problems but emphasized that it would not be as severe as before. Multiple sources of water The spokesperson stated that the rainy season is expected to provide multiple sources of water for drinking and agriculture.  The increase in water reserves will have a positive impact on the southern areas of the capital, Amman. Additionally, it will provide relief to the southern areas, namely Karak, Tafilah, Madaba, and Maan, which have faced drought in many dams in recent years. Salama also noted that the rains have boosted the groundwater that has been suffering in previous years.  The aquifers, especially in the southern areas, have stored significant amounts of water.
