UNHCR report shows $166m budget deficiency

AMMAN — A report by the UNHCR revealed a deficiency in its annual budget to respond to the refugees’ needs in Jordan, which accumulated up to $166 million, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.اضافة اعلان

According to the report, UNRWA only received $239 million out of this year’s budget; which is $405 million. Thus, the funding received is only 59 percent based on numbers issued in December.

The funding does not include the aid provided for Palestinians in Jordan for they are aided by UNRWA.

Jordan, the second largest host country of refugees in the world compared to its population which hosts 759,745 refugees, of which 672,599 are Syrians, 66,386 Iraqis, 12,787 Yamani, 5,891 Sudanese, 658 Somalis, and 1,424 from other nationalities, according to UNHCR’s latest updates.

The government indicated that there are about 1.3 million Syrian refugees in Jordan, half of whom are not registered to the UNHCR.

The UNHCR pointed out that Jordan was affected the most by the Syrian crisis. The UNHCR also held talks regarding registering Syrian refugees for the COVID-19 vaccination program.
