The total volume of land cargo handling rose by 37.7% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 10,499,979 tons, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport.

The Transport Sector Performance Indicators Report for the second quarter of 2025, issued by the ministry, also showed that total land cargo handling increased by 37.4% compared to the first quarter of the same year.
Land cargo handling refers to the total quantity of goods transported by trucks through land border crossings, including imported, exported, and transit goods passing through the Kingdom’s territory without entering the local market.
The report indicated that the volume of imported goods transported by land decreased by 2.2% in Q2 2025 compared to Q2 2024, reaching 3,947,222 tons, but rose by 26.1% compared to Q1 2025.
Meanwhile, transit cargo volumes increased by 18.5% year-on-year to 2,339,758 tons, and by 8.1% compared to the first quarter of this year.
The report also revealed that exported goods transported by land increased by 82.5% in Q2 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching 6,552,757 tons, and rose by 95.1% compared to Q1 2025.
Additionally, incoming truck traffic through all border crossings grew by 23.4% compared to Q2 2024, and by 6.7% compared to Q1 2025, totaling 155,949 trucks.
Outgoing trucks through border centers also increased by 28.8% year-on-year and by 14.5% compared to Q1 2025, reaching 158,602 trucks.
Regarding the performance indicators for the road freight transport sector between Q2 2024 and Q2 2025, the report showed that the number of container transport companies increased by 2.6% to 120 companies, while general freight companies rose by 5.4% to 156 companies. The number of vehicle transport companies remained steady at 9.
However, heavy-load transport companies decreased by 10% to 9 companies, while refrigerated transport companies grew by 33.3% to 12 companies. The number of livestock transport companies also rose by 25% to 5 companies.
According to the report, the number of vegetable oil transport companies remained unchanged at 3, as did the number of crude oil transport companies at 30. Meanwhile, ready-mix concrete transport companies increased by 33.3%, reaching 4 companies.
