In his address, Dr. Hijazin emphasized that under the leadership and guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, Jordan attaches great importance to holy religious sites, particularly Christian pilgrimage sites. He noted that the Kingdom is home to dozens of sites mentioned in the Holy Bible, including five officially recognized by the Vatican as Christian pilgrimage destinations.

Dr. Hijazin pointed out that this royal commitment is reflected in His Majesty’s continuous directives to protect these sites and enhance their infrastructure and tourism services — especially at the Baptism Site (Al-Maghtas), which is considered one of the most significant religious landmarks in the Christian world.

He also referred to His Majesty the King’s invitation to His Holiness the Pope during their recent meeting at the Vatican to visit Jordan and witness the Kingdom’s profound religious and human heritage, which embodies the values of harmony and coexistence among followers of different faiths.

For his part, the Director-General of the Baptism Site Commission presented an overview of the site’s historical and spiritual significance, its connection to other religious landmarks across the Kingdom, and Jordan’s leading role in preserving this unique heritage and presenting it to the world as a symbol of peace and tolerance.
