S&P Global: Jordan Third Most Targeted Country in Iran-Related Cyberattacks
S&P Global Ratings has warned that the conflict in the Middle East is no longer confined to traditional military operations. Instead, it has evolved into a hybrid war involving large-scale cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure and economic systems, thereby increasing risks to the global economy and supply chains.
Jordan ranked third regionally in the number of conflict-related cyberattacks, following Israel and Kuwait. However, no actual disruptions to vital services or economic systems were recorded. This reflects the effectiveness of local cybersecurity measures and the resilient digital infrastructure of critical sectors, showcasing the state's ability to swiftly absorb electronic shocks and prevent them from escalating into operational or economic crises.
The agency's report, reviewed by Al-Mamlaka, points to a significant escalation in cyberattacks sponsored by Iran or affiliated groups. These attacks focus on sensitive sectors such as government, finance, energy, and telecommunications, aiming to disrupt essential services and undermine economic stability.
Additionally, satellite navigation systems recorded disruptions affecting more than 1,100 vessels in the Arabian Gulf. This threatens the safety of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of global oil and gas exports pass.
