Irritation and Risks for Vulnerable Groups

Dr. Ghaith Owais, Director of Health Awareness and Media at the Ministry, warned that the spread of dust significantly increases the risk of respiratory problems and eye irritation across all population groups.

Owais specifically highlighted the groups most at risk:

Patients with asthma and chronic respiratory diseases

Elderly individuals

Children

Symptoms of Dust Inhalation

The health official explained that inhaling dust particles irritates the mucous membranes, leading to a range of symptoms, including:

Severe coughing and frequent sneezing

Shortness of breath

Itching and redness in the eyes

Dry skin

Exacerbation of asthma attacks and sinusitis

Strict Preventive Protocol

To minimize these effects, Owais urged citizens to follow a set of precautionary measures:

Home Isolation: Stay indoors as much as possible, especially during peak dust hours, keeping windows and doors tightly closed to prevent dust entry.

Safe Cleaning: Regularly wipe surfaces with a damp cloth to prevent dust from dispersing indoors.

Personal Protection: Wear a protective mask that fully covers the nose and mouth when going outside and avoid prolonged outdoor activities.

Child Protection: Children should not be allowed to play outside under these conditions.

Emergency Measures: Asthma patients must carry their prescribed inhalers at all times and immediately visit the nearest health center or hospital if symptoms worsen.
