The summit was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, and witnessed broad international participation, with more than 8,000 representatives from UN member states, including heads of state and government, international organizations, the United Nations, and civil society groups.
Jordan’s participation in the summit underscores its commitment to achieving the goals of social development, as outlined in the National Social Protection Strategy, as well as its global contributions in this field. The most recent of these efforts was co-hosting the Third Global Disability Summit last April with the Federal Republic of Germany, which culminated in the Amman–Berlin Declaration on the global inclusion of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The Doha Declaration, adopted during the summit, renews the international community’s commitment to advancing social development and implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also reaffirms a political, economic, and ethical vision for social development founded on human dignity, human rights, equality, and peace.
Held thirty years after the first Social Development Summit in Copenhagen, the Doha summit aims to enhance cooperation among governments and international institutions to build more inclusive and sustainable societies.
The Jordanian delegation included Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa and Jordan’s Ambassador to Doha, Zaid Al-Louzi.
