King stresses the importance of strengthening humanitarian response efforts in Gaza and ensuring sufficient aid delivery

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday called on the countries of the Middle East and Southern Europe to work jointly and in coordination with the United States and international partners to ensure that all parties adhere to the Gaza war ceasefire agreement in all its phases, paving the way for regional stability.

Speaking at the “Med 9” Summit of Southern European countries held in Portorož, Slovenia, His Majesty highlighted the pivotal role of the European Union in implementing the agreement, including through support for the efforts of the Palestinian National Authority in serving the interests of the Palestinian people.

Attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the summit saw the King underscore the need to enhance the humanitarian response in Gaza and ensure sufficient aid delivery to mitigate the catastrophic consequences of the war.

His Majesty referred to the Two-State Solution Conference held in New York, co-organized by Saudi Arabia and France, calling for building on its outcomes and urging more countries to recognize the State of Palestine.

The King also stressed the need for calm in the West Bank and Jerusalem and for supporting Palestinians’ steadfastness on their land, warning against the dangers of unilateral measures.

King Abdullah noted that the ongoing challenges facing the Middle East and Southern Europe require sustained cooperation and coordination, adding that the “Med 9” Summit serves as an example of efforts to strengthen dialogue and enhance coordination to address shared challenges.

The “Med 9” Summit, attended by leaders of Southern European countries and representatives of the European Union, includes Slovenia, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Croatia — the nine EU member states bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

The summit discussions covered the Gaza ceasefire agreement, its implementation steps, and the roles of Med 9 countries in ensuring its success, ultimately leading to a complete end to the war and the establishment of a real prospect for lasting peace.

Deliberations also addressed the importance of maintaining calm in the West Bank and preventing any actions or measures that could threaten security and stability or undermine the two-state solution.

His Majesty expressed appreciation for the invitation to participate in the summit’s second edition, noting that it reflects the deep ties between Jordan, Slovenia, and the countries of Southern Europe.

During a working luncheon with the summit leaders, King Abdullah highlighted the importance of exploring avenues for economic growth between Middle Eastern and Southern European countries.
