Minister of Agriculture Khaled Al-Hneifat stressed "the need to follow up on the work of olive presses, and on their technical conditions, to ensure they comply" with production requirements.

The General Syndicate of Jordanian Olive Oil Mills Owners and Olive Producers spokesperson Mahmoud Al-Omari speculated that the price a 16-liter tin of olive oil to peak at JD85 in the upcoming season, but granted that the final price will be subject to market forces.

He said the olive presses are prepared for the olive season, which starts in October and ends in December.

All olive mills in the Kingdom are under the supervision of specialized committees assigned by the syndicate’s calibration committee and the Agriculture Ministry, who inspect the production lines of each mill, the spokesperson said.

The presses’ fare will be fixed so as to remain fair to both the farmer and the consumer, Omari said.

Meanwhile, Minister Hneifat said that Jordan is expected to produce roughly 30,000 tonnes of olive oil this year, which is enough to meet local demand and have a small quantity to export.

The minister voiced hope that this season would be better than the previous one, saying that the rates of increase in olive oil production may be 20–25 percent more than last season, and this is a “positive indication”.

“We care about the olive season because it matters to every Jordanian household all around the Kingdom” he added.
