AMMAN — The National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) on Saturday called
for the protection and promotion of the rights of the elderly, through
legislation which guarantees their rights and takes into account their special
needs.
“It
is necessary to provide a secure retirement future for the elderly through the
social security umbrella and incorporate them into necessary health care,
including home care and providing medical cadres with geriatricians,” NCHR said
in a statement to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The
NCHR pointed to challenges related to “this category, which requires the
cooperation of all entities to enhance the reality of the elderly”. It
recommended updating plans for protecting the elderly.
