Most COVID cases are Omicron subvariant

AMMAN  — Results of a study by the National Center for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases Control in cooperation with the Directorate of Communicable Diseases of the Ministry of Health show that 85 percent of COVID-19 infections admitted to hospitals during the period from February 23 to March 5 were caused by the Omicron BA.2 subvariant, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

The study was done to determine the prevalence of the BA.2 subvariant and to assess its severity in Amman hospitals, and was conducted on 290 confirmed cases of coronavirus in patients admitted at Amman Field Hospital, Gardens Hospital, and Al-Hayat General Hospital.

The center indicated that the study sample was 60 percent male and 40 percent female, with an average age of 59.5 years, and the highest percentage of hospital admissions was in patients 70 years old and over.
