Ministry of Transport Prepares to Launch Phase II of Amman-Governorates Intercity Connection Project
The Ministry of Transport is preparing to launch the second phase of the regular public transport development project between Amman and the governorates. This follows the positive results achieved in Phase I, which launched in mid-2025 as a significant step toward modernizing the public transport system and improving commuting services for citizens.اضافة اعلان

Phase I began with a fleet of 121 buses, later expanded to 152, operating on four main routes linking the capital, Amman, with the centers of Irbid, Salt, Jerash, and Karak. The system operates under a modern framework featuring regular schedules and advanced operational standards.

According to operational data, the project has transported over 1.6 million passengers via approximately 139,000 trips since its inception until the end of February, reflecting growing public reliance on organized intercity transport.

Expansion into Phase II
Phase II represents a calculated expansion aimed at building an integrated national public transport network. It seeks to bridge geographical connectivity gaps, particularly between the southern governorates and the capital, while enhancing integration between the northern and central regions.

The second phase is set to include seven new routes operated by a fleet of approximately 180 buses, with a daily capacity of about 13.5 thousand passengers.

The new routes will include:

Amman – Ma’an

Amman – Tafileh

Amman – Ajloun

Irbid – Zarqa

Zarqa – Mafraq

Jerash – Irbid

Jerash – Mafraq

Smart Transport Solutions and Government Support
The buses will be equipped with Smart Transportation Solutions, including GPS tracking systems to ensure schedule compliance and Electronic Payment Systems to facilitate ease of use.

The project follows a government-subsidized operational model, with an estimated annual subsidy of 4.2 million JOD for Phase II. This support aims to ensure service sustainability, maintain tariff stability, and encourage the shift from private vehicles to public transport.

Timeline and Implementation
Experimental Operation: Mid-June 2026.

Full Operational Readiness: End of July 2026.

This project aligns with the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to support economic development, reduce commuting costs, and alleviate traffic congestion by improving infrastructure efficiency and linking labor markets across the Kingdom.
