Minister of Labor: Vocational Training Meets Market Needs; Skills Matter More Than Degrees
Minister of Labor Khaled Al-Bakkar said that graduates of the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC) or the Advanced College for Vocational Training will benefit from a one- to two-year training program equivalent to an industrial diploma, designed to prepare them for the labor market and its requirements.

Speaking on the “Sawt Al-Mamlaka” program on Monday evening, Al-Bakkar noted that the VTC currently offers 138 programs aligned with the demands of the Jordanian labor market. He stressed the importance of equipping young people with skills that match both local market needs and global labor market trends.

He explained that one year is the minimum period for training within the VTC, emphasizing that vocational training opens new opportunities for young people in various fields, and that global trends increasingly prioritize skills over academic degrees.

Al-Bakkar pointed out that the global economy is expected to lose 330 million jobs while creating 170 million new ones, underscoring the need to keep pace with the skills required in the evolving global market.

He revealed that the Jordanian labor market—across both public and private sectors—created 95,000 jobs last year, while 96,000 individuals registered with Social Security for the first time since the beginning of 2025.

He also noted that most workers in Jordan’s jewelry and goldsmithing sector are foreign laborers due to the lack of trained Jordanian workers, despite the competitive salaries available in this field.

Al-Bakkar added that the informal sector includes around 1.6 million job opportunities occupied by both Jordanians and non-Jordanians.
