The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on urban activity and building permits in Jordan, revealing that the total licensed building area during the first eight months of 2025 reached 6.44 million m², compared to 5.48 million m² during the same period in 2024, marking an increase of 17.5%.اضافة اعلان

The total number of building permits issued in the first eight months of 2025 amounted to 16,276 permits, compared to 14,948 permits during the same period in 2024, reflecting a growth rate of 9%.

On a monthly level, licensed areas increased from 809,000 m² in July 2025 to 852,000 m² in August 2025, a monthly growth of 5.3%.

Licensed Areas by Purpose

The survey indicated that residential licensed areas totaled approximately 5.0 million m², up from 4.4 million m² in the same period of 2024, an increase of 13.6%. Non-residential licensed areas reached about 1.45 million m², compared to 1.08 million m² in 2024, marking a 34.3% rise.

Consequently, residential buildings accounted for 77.5% of the total licensed area, while non-residential buildings represented 22.5%.

Regional Distribution

Central region: 71.1% of total licensed building area (up 4.1%)

Northern region: 20.5% (down 8.1%)

Southern region: 8.4% (down 10.6%)

Licensed Residential Areas per Capita

Amman Governorate: highest share at 12.8%, with 0.560 m² per person

Mafraq Governorate: lowest share at 4.4%, with 0.191 m² per person

New Buildings vs. Additions

Licensed areas for new buildings and additions to existing structures accounted for 62.3% of the total licensed area, while existing building renovations made up 37.7%. The total licensed area for new buildings and additions reached 4 million m², compared to 3.5 million m² during the same period in 2024, a 14.3% increase.

The Department of Statistics provides monthly data on the number of permits, licensed building areas, and building usage types by governorate to inform planners, policymakers, and decision-makers about a key segment of the construction sector – urban activity. Government spending on buildings, roads, infrastructure, and other projects represents the complementary segment of this sector, covered through other surveys, except for government projects licensed by donor authorities, which are included in this count.
