The project's primary objective is to assist municipalities in reducing energy expenses by replacing traditional lighting units in municipal streets with LED energy-efficient technology, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Azzam emphasized the economic feasibility of the project, stating that it will result in substantial savings. The project is estimated to save approximately JD15 million in electricity consumption annually and reduce maintenance costs for outdated units by JD7 million each year.

The project is expected to span a duration of three years.

Project details
Costing a total of JD65 million, the project is a joint effort between the Ministry of Local Administration, CVDB, and the Ministry of Energy.

And as per Azzam, 50 percent of the project cost will be covered by the Ministry of Energy's "Rural Fils" scheme, while the remaining half will be provided by CVDB as a loan, to be repaid over a span of seven years.

CVDB plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial dues of tenderers are paid promptly. Azzam highlighted the importance of this effort in encouraging companies to implement and finance the adoption of energy-efficient technology.

Replacing traditional street lamps
The project aims to replace 410,000 traditional lamps in municipal streets with energy-saving LED lights, installed by electricity distribution companies within their respective concession areas.

Azzam revealed that the number of units is expected to increase to around 600,000 in the future. By implementing this initiative, the project anticipates a reduction of approximately 87,941.3 tonnes of carbon emissions, consequently leading to a decrease in energy expenditure.

According to Azzam, energy costs currently constitute about 20 percent of municipal expenditures. By reducing energy bills through this project, the quality of services provided to citizens and the local community is expected to improve significantly.
