EMRC dealt with 5,980 cases of electricity theft in Q1 2023

AMMAN — Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Chairman Ziyad Al-Saaida said on Tuesday that the EMRC dealt with 5,980 cases of electricity theft during the first quarter of 2023. The number of inspection visits so far this year stand at 834, compared to 533 at the same time in 2022, marking a 56 percent increase, Addustour Daily reported. Periodic checksTo put an end to the so-called "elicitation" process of stealing electricity, which increased by 26 percent in the first quarter of 2023, the authority also carried out 44,914 periodic and programmed checks compared to 40,103 during the same period of 2022, Saaida added.
