His Majesty was briefed by HRH Princess Basma bint Ali, the garden’s founder, on its role in preserving Jordan’s native flora, protecting plant usage rights, promoting scientific research, and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.
Princess Basma also highlighted the garden’s developmental role—which enjoys continuous royal support—in creating job opportunities for the local community, with a particular focus on empowering women and supporting their role in economic development.
Established in 2005, the garden is home to the Global Center for Habitat Restoration in West Asia and North Africa.
It also includes pioneering projects such as the Jordanian National Herbarium, which houses over 7,000 herbarium specimens of native plants, and a seed bank capable of preserving plant seeds for up to ten years.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several members of the royal family, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, Director of the King’s Office Eng. Alaa Batayneh, and other senior officials.
