Jordan's digital payments surge to JD2.2 billion in January 2024

AMMAN — In January 2024, Jordan witnessed a significant surge in digital payments, totaling around JD2.2 billion, as per Al-Ghad. This increase was evident across the country's three main digital immediate payment systems: 'CLIQ,' 'JoMoPay,' and 'e-FAWATEERcom.'اضافة اعلان

According to the monthly report from the Jordan Payment and Clearing Systems Company (JoPACC), the value of payments made by Jordanians through immediate digital payment systems, usable via smartphones, increased by JD719 million. This represents a 49 percent rise compared to the value recorded in January 2023, which was approximately JD1.48 billion.

The report indicated that immediate digital payments in Jordan during January 2024 were distributed as follows: approximately JD694 million through CLIQ and around JD360 million through JoMoPay, with the e-FAWATEERcom system comprising the largest share of the total at about JD1.15 billion.

Furthermore, the data indicates that the total number of payment transactions through all digital immediate payment systems during January 2024 was approximately 13.25 million transactions. According to the data, the number of transactions executed through the three digital systems increased by six million transactions, representing an 84 percent increase compared to the number of transactions executed through the systems in January 2023, which was approximately 7.2 million transactions.

Additionally, the total number of transactions executed through digital immediate payment systems during January 2024 was distributed as follows: approximately 4.49 million transactions through the CLIQ system, about 3.5 million transactions through the JoMoPay system, and around 5.3 million transactions through the E-Fawateercom system.

Regarding the number of system users, it experienced an increase due to the rising interest in electronic payments and their financial transaction benefits. According to the report, the CLIQ system's user base reached approximately 1.24 million by the end of January. The report highlighted that Jordanians comprised the majority of Click users, at around 96.4 percent, with the remainder being non-Jordanians. Furthermore, the data revealed that males constituted 63.4 percent of the total users, with females making up the remaining percentage.

The data also revealed that the age group between 18 and 30 years old comprised the highest percentage of CLIQ users, accounting for over 39 percent of the total by the end of January 2024.

For the JoMoPay system, the user count stood at approximately 2.19 million by the end of January, with Jordanians comprising the majority at over 88 percent of the total. Males represented 52.4 percent of the users. Furthermore, the data indicated that the age group between 18 and 30 years old constituted the largest share of users, totaling about 790,000 within this demographic.

The data further reported that the user count of the E-Fawateercom system reached approximately 4.15 million by the end of January. In addition, the number of users linked to the system comprised 505 individuals from diverse governmental and private sectors. Presently, the system can facilitate payments for 1,743 services catering to registered billers within the system.
