JSMO, UAE industry ministry sign MoU to enhance joint cooperation

AMMAN— Director of Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), Abeer Barakat Zuhair, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Undersecretary of UAE Ministry of Industry andAdvanced Technology, Omar Suwaidi, aimed to raise cooperation level in field of regulations, technical rules and conformity assessment activities, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

The agreement stems from the two sides' desire to enhance technical cooperation and exchange expertise, which came on sidelines of the annual meeting of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), held in Abu Dhabi during September 19-23, according to a JSMO statement.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Zuhair said MoU contributes to promoting standardization activities, which play an "important" role in supporting economic activities, enhancing quality requirements for goods, products, services and consumer protection.

The agreement also contributes to standardizing specifications, increasing production capacity, improving product quality, facilitating trade exchange, and eliminating trade-related technical challenges through mutual recognition, she added.

Zuhair stressed importance of JSMO's role in its participation in technical committees concerned with drafting unified Arab standards, in accordance with best international practices, which would contribute to developing standardization industry and facilitating pan-Arab trade exchange.

Under the MoU, JSMO and UAE industry ministry exchange information related to common action areas and work to orchestrate standards, according to certified national, regional and international references.

In addition, the two sides cooperate to align conformity assessment procedures, aimed to facilitating exchange of non-food and non-pharmaceutical industrial goods and products between Jordan and the UAE.

The two sides also agreed to reciprocate information on technical training programs and protection of intellectual property rights, and exchange of experts in field of standard specifications, regulations and technical rules.

To counter fraud, joint cooperation covers field of conformity certificate-based legislation and regulations and national authenticity documents for precious metal handicraft industry, issued by the competent authorities in the two countries.
