The Greater Amman Municipality has begun, as of Sunday, operating traffic enforcement radars on several main roads within its jurisdiction, as part of efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents.
According to an official statement, the activation of these radars comes as part of an integrated plan to improve compliance with traffic laws and monitor dangerous violations such as speeding, running red lights, sudden lane changes at traffic signals, and stopping or parking on pedestrian crossings.
The statement explained that radar locations were selected based on field traffic studies targeting areas most prone to accidents and congestion.
It added that all components of the project will be fully operational during this month until April 28, including 20 radars, traffic signal cameras, and point-to-point cameras designed to measure and enforce average speed.
The municipality has also installed clear traffic signs at all locations to indicate speed limits on each route, ensuring drivers are alerted in advance and encouraging better adherence to traffic rules.
For his part, Director of Traffic Operations Shadi Al-Rawabdeh stated that this project represents a significant step forward in developing traffic monitoring systems in the capital. He noted that the use of modern technology will help improve traffic flow and reduce dangerous driving behaviors.
He added that the main goal of the system is to promote a culture of traffic compliance and accident prevention, not merely to issue fines, urging drivers to follow traffic laws and regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
