AMMAN — Director of the Civil Service
Consumer Corporation Salman Al-Qudah said that the demand in civilian consumer
markets has more than tripled over the past two weeks.

Qudah added, in a statement to Al-Mamlaka TV, that
the increase came after the corporation introduced price controls on all
commodities, especially basic goods such as sugar, rice, vegetable oils,
powdered milk, frozen chicken, canned goods, and all food commodities.
He said that, as a result of the decision and the
general rise in prices, there is a marked difference between the market’s
prices and those of the corporation.
The institution is
not a store, but rather one of the government’s tools to control prices, meet
market needs, and support citizens, especially in light of the decline in
purchasing power and high inflation, Qudah said. The corporation therefore buys
large quantities of staple goods well in advance.
