AMMAN— Jordanian authorities raided one of the largest retail companies selling signal decoding boxes in Amman this week at the behest of the beIN media group, the company said in a statement carried by Khaberni.اضافة اعلان

As the official broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the group said it took measures to combat piracy in Jordan, and confronted the retail company.

Law enforcement raided various branches of the company and seized illegal TV broadcasting devices, the statement said, adding that legal action was taken against the company.

The devices illegally mirror beIN channels and stream the video feed to consumers.

Investigations showed that the company sold several hundred devices in the past month alone, ahead of the World Cup.

The National Library Department and beIN had been monitoring the activities of local retailers for several months. According to beIN, 50 percent of merchants in Jordan recommend cheaper, pirated products and services over legal versions.

The Media Commission has blocked 77 sites in less than a month for pirating beIN content, the statement said. The commission also issued instructions on December 3 to all media outlets to refrain from publishing any beIN content without permission, the statement said.
