A smuggler was killed in the operation and another was arrested , while the others retreated back into the Syrian territories, the source said.

This operation comes within the framework of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)'s efforts made to maintain the Kingdom's border security and stability, based on its main duties, the source pointed out.

The JAF's border guard forces, in coordination with the security apparatuses and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), spotted a group of people coming from Syrian territory to Jordan, who tried to cross the border illegally. Quick response troops dealt with smugglers and applied the JAF rules of engagement in force, the source noted.
After searching the area, 175,000 Captagon pills were found, which were transferred to the competent authorities, the source added.

The source stressed that the JAF will deal "firmly" with any infiltration or smuggling attempt, to protect Jordan's borders and prevent attempts to tamper with the Kingdom's national security.
