He said that Amman Civil Airport is targeting low-cost flights and has begun operating direct services to Egypt at a rate of two flights per week and to Kuwait at a rate of two flights per day, stressing that the airport serves as an alternative to Queen Alia International Airport rather than a competitor.

During a media briefing titled “Amman Civil Airport,” attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Government Communication Zaid Al-Nawaiseh, Al-Azzam added that the Jordanian Airports Company owns around 9,000 dunums of land surrounding Amman Civil Airport, in addition to 21,000 dunums around Queen Alia International Airport.

Al-Azzam said that “no decision has been made at this stage to enter into a partnership with the private sector for Amman Civil Airport.”

Responding to journalists’ questions, he confirmed that the airport was licensed after completing all technical procedures, including meeting public safety requirements, and that Amman Civil Airport is currently operational, with regular and scheduled flights for medium-sized aircraft.

He explained that the total cost of developing Amman Civil Airport to date has reached JOD 15 million, covering renovation and outfitting works, including the arrivals and departures halls.

Al-Azzam noted that there are ready plans and studies to expand airport facilities, including terminal expansion and entry and exit corridors, in line with a broader future vision to be implemented in the near future.

He also pointed to ongoing coordination with the Jordan Tourism Board to help facilitate travel procedures through Amman Civil Airport, supporting smoother flight operations and enhanced air traffic.

Al-Azzam added that the airlines targeted to operate at Amman Civil Airport are low-cost carriers, noting that several airlines are currently in contact with the Airports Company with the aim of launching operations from the airport.

He explained that Amman Civil Airport was designed to accommodate medium-sized aircraft, in line with the targeted operational model and services provided.

He further stated that there are plans to improve access to the airport, confirming continued coordination with the Greater Amman Municipality and the Traffic Department to ease traffic flow to Amman Civil Airport.

For his part, Al-Nawaiseh said that the Jordanian Airports Company seeks to become a distinguished provider of aviation services and infrastructure in the Middle East in accordance with the highest efficiency standards, noting that the reopening of Amman Civil Airport strengthens the Kingdom’s air transport system.

He emphasized that the airport represents a strategic hub to support the national economy and aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision.

The meeting comes as part of efforts to highlight the reopening of the airport in line with the Economic Modernization Vision, positioning it as a new launch point for air services, expanding travel options, reducing costs, boosting tourism, and integrating the airport into Amman’s urban landscape.
