The Ministry of Public Works and Housing completed 10 road rehabilitation and maintenance projects across the Kingdom during the first half of this year, according to the Ministry's spokesperson, Omar Maharmeh.

In a press statement, Maharmeh explained that the efforts of the Road and Bridge Maintenance Directorate, in cooperation with public works directorates across various governorates, led to the completion of a vital package of projects. These works included rehabilitating and maintaining main roads in the governorates of Amman, Irbid, Balqa, Mafraq, Ajloun, Karak, and Aqaba, as well as key roads in the Central Region.
He pointed out that the projects included tenders covering the maintenance of 11 roads in the Central Region, 10 in the Northern Region, and 9 in the Southern Region.
He added that the completed projects involved specialized engineering and technical interventions, most notably: maintaining Road No. (90) in Aqaba, addressing landslides, improving traffic intersections, implementing protection works on the (Wadi Numira) and (Wadi Araba) roads in Karak, constructing box culverts for rainwater drainage, widening roads, and creating safe pedestrian crossings.
Maharmeh noted that the ministry is currently working on 8 strategic tenders. These include treating landslides on the (Madaba–Al-Mujib) road, maintaining the road leading to the iron tunnel in Aqaba, and maintaining sections of the Baghdad International Highway in Mafraq.
He further mentioned that ongoing projects also include completing the widening of the (Kufranjah – Wadi Al-Tawahin) road in Ajloun, implementing asphalt mix maintenance and road protection programs, managing rainwater drainage in the Northern and Central regions, supplying precast concrete elements, and constructing dedicated pedestrian and bicycle lanes on the Airport Road in the capital, Amman.
In a related context, the spokesperson highlighted dozens of agricultural and rural road projects currently underway in various regions of the Kingdom, which are funded and managed through the budgets of the Governorate Councils (Decentralization).
