According to Cairo News correspondent in Khartoum, Mohamed Ibrahim, the army also successfully shot down RSF-operated drones in the Kenana area of White Nile State.
This escalation comes amid the RSF’s increasing and repeated use of drones to target cities and areas under Sudanese army control — a strategic shift in the ongoing war that began in April 2023.
In a new attack on civilians, at least five Sudanese were killed and more than ten others injured on Friday when an RSF drone strike targeted a civilian gathering in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.
According to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), a suicide drone belonging to the RSF exploded in the city’s central market, killing five people and injuring ten others.
Fierce fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF has intensified recently in Darfur (west) and Kordofan, particularly after the army regained control of the capital, Khartoum. In recent months, suicide drones have emerged as a new weapon that the RSF has increasingly deployed.
The ongoing war in Sudan has claimed tens of thousands of lives and caused what the United Nations describes as “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis,” displacing more than 13 million people, including one million from El Fasher.
