Fabrizia Falcione, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Sudan, confirmed on Sunday that the country is witnessing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world and the largest global displacement crisis. She noted that women and girls bear the heaviest burden due to the ongoing conflict.

Falcione explained in statements to Al Qahera News that many pregnant women are forced to give birth without the bare minimum of medical care, given the shortage of health services, the difficulty of reaching hospitals, and the decline in water, electricity, and essential support services.
She added that humanitarian conditions are deteriorating even further in conflict zones, particularly in Kordofan, Blue Nile, and White Nile, where the number of displaced persons is rising. Meanwhile, displacement camps suffer from overcrowding and a severe lack of basic humanitarian services, worsening the population's suffering.
Attacks Against Civilians
The UNFPA Resident Representative in Sudan stressed the need for all parties to commit to international humanitarian law, which mandates the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, health facilities, and medical and humanitarian workers.
She explained that attacks on civilians, especially women and girls, obstruct access to healthcare and basic services and limit the population's ability to move safely and flee violence zones, confirming that the humanitarian crisis in Sudan is escalating dangerously.
She added that she heard painful stories during her visits to displacement camps, including that of a 20-year-old woman who was forced to give birth while fleeing Kordofan, surviving with her child only thanks to the help of a woman she chanced upon along the way. Falcione described the ongoing situation as an urgent humanitarian crisis requiring an immediate response.
