AMMAN — The
women’s national football team, Al-Nashmiyat, beat their Syrian counterpart
4–0, on Monday at the Petra Stadium, marking the start of the seventh West
Asian Women’s Championship 2022.
Maysa Jabara scored
three goals in the 11th, 65th, and 89th minutes, while Banah Al-Bitar scored a
goal in the 70th minute.
Al-Nashmiyat currently
leads the standings with three points, a goal difference from Lebanon, who beat
Palestine 3–0.
Al-Nashmiyat’s coach,
the Portuguese David Nachimento said: “We started the tournament perfectly and
made an important step towards our goal of preserving the title.”
The women’s national team was the title-holder of the last
West Asian Football Championship, which took place in the year 2019 in Bahrain.
