Living and humanitarian conditions inside Israel's "Janot" prison continue to experience a dangerous deterioration amid ongoing punitive measures and restrictions imposed on Palestinian detainees, depriving them of basic human rights guaranteed by international covenants, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said in a report issued Wednesday, according to the WAFA news agency.

Following visits to several prisoners to gather testimonies, the Commission revealed that prison authorities only allow laundry facilities to be used once every 12 to 14 days, with undergarments and outer clothing rarely being replaced—exacerbating suffering under already harsh conditions.
The Commission added that detainees face systematic beatings and repression, alongside a total lack of medical care and an absence of minimal personal hygiene supplies.
Overcrowding inside the cells has reached severe levels, with some holding up to 12 prisoners despite having only 10 beds, forcing two detainees to sleep on the floor. Furthermore, prison administration enforces punitive measures such as forcing prisoners to sleep on their stomachs and confiscating mattresses following the morning roll call until the evening recount.
The report highlighted that prison sections lack fundamental necessities, noting that even razors and nail clippers are unavailable, forcing all prisoners to share limited supplies.
The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs renewed its call to international and humanitarian organizations, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to uphold their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take urgent action to halt ongoing violations, ensuring prisoners receive the basic rights guaranteed under international law. — (Agencies)
