Multiple media reports indicate that Rodri is closing in on a move to Barcelona; however, the English champions are unwilling to let him leave easily.
Rodri remains under contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2027. Consequently, this transfer window represents the final opportunity for the English club to secure a substantial transfer fee, given the lack of progress on a contract extension.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are aiming to capitalise on the final year of Rodri's contract and his desire to depart the Citizens to finalize the deal.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have submitted a new verbal offer to Manchester City worth €60 million plus add-ons for the Spanish midfielder.
Writing on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Romano added that Manchester City are holding firm on their €80 million valuation to sanction the sale.
Romano further noted that Barcelona remain confident in completing the transfer, suggesting that a compromise meeting in the middle—with performance-based add-ons playing a crucial role—could be the key to reaching a final agreement.
It is worth noting that Rodri, Spain’s national team captain, was a vital figure in leading his country to the 2026 World Cup title, where he was also awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.
