A series of drone strikes targeted Khartoum and two northern Sudanese cities early Wednesday morning, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) correspondent and eyewitnesses, in an apparently coordinated assault following several months of relative calm in the capital.

The drone attack on Khartoum occurred around 5:00 AM local time (03:00 GMT), triggering anti-aircraft fire from a military base in northern Omdurman. Meanwhile, witnesses in the army-controlled cities of Atbara and Ad-Damar reported sighting drones and hearing explosions.
The attack on the capital coincides with ongoing military operations across multiple fronts, as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) attempt to expand control over strategic positions while the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) maintain maneuvers in several sectors.
Since the outbreak of conflict between the SAF and RSF in April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in fierce fighting that has devastated humanitarian conditions and displaced millions of civilians. While regional and international efforts continue to pursue a lasting ceasefire and revive political dialogue, persistent fighting across key fronts—including North Kordofan—underlines the difficulty of achieving a swift resolution as both sides hold their ground and push for battlefield gains. — (Agencies)
