Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Tuesday appointed Fatima Zahra El Mansouri as prime minister, making her the first woman to hold the position in the country.
According to the Moroccan News Agency, El Mansouri’s appointment followed her Party of Authenticity and Modernity, a liberal centrist party, securing the highest number of seats in the parliamentary elections held on September 23.
The agency said the Royal Palace Ministry announced that King Mohammed VI received El Mansouri at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Tuesday and appointed her, under Article 47 of the Constitution, as head of government and tasked her with forming a new government.
