Two Palestinians were also injured after a wall of a building previously damaged by Israeli bombardment collapsed in northern Gaza due to the heavy rainfall, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
WAFA reported that rainwater flooded thousands of tents, particularly those set up in low-lying areas, allowing water to seep inside and damaging the belongings of displaced families. Concerns are growing as the low-pressure weather system continues to affect Palestinian territories.
The agency added that two Palestinians were injured when a wall of a building previously struck by Israeli forces in northern Gaza collapsed under the impact of heavy rain, which further weakened already damaged structures at risk of falling.
These developments come as tens of thousands of Palestinians face extremely difficult humanitarian conditions after Israeli forces destroyed their homes during the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip. Many have been forced to live in temporary shelters made of nylon and thin fabric, which offer little protection against rain, strong winds and severe cold.
An estimated 270,000 tents are sheltering displaced families across the Gaza Strip's governorates. More than 400,000 displaced people are living in highly vulnerable locations exposed to flooding and rainwater accumulation, or near the seashore, increasing their exposure to the dangers of severe weather systems and winter storms.
The shortage of fuel and heating supplies is further worsening their suffering. Families are struggling to keep children and elderly people warm as temperatures drop at night and rainwater seeps into their shelters.
Displaced families face renewed hardship with every weather system, amid the continued destruction of infrastructure and homes and shortages of essential supplies and shelter materials. Thousands of families remain exposed to the dangers of cold weather, flooding and the collapse of damaged buildings, as the urgent need grows for adequate tents, heating equipment and emergency supplies to protect them from harsh weather conditions.
