Based on the latest radar images, the department reported increasingly heavy rainfall in these areas, which could become particularly intense at times, raising the risk of sudden flooding and water flowing through valleys towards lower-lying areas.
The department stressed the need for extreme caution around the Dead Sea and surrounding valleys due to their topography, which encourages rainwater accumulation and rapid runoff towards low-lying areas. It noted that floodwaters could reach the area through tributary valleys even if heavy rain does not fall directly at the affected location.
It also warned of possible soil and rockslides, particularly along mountain roads, slopes and valley channels. Citizens were urged to stay away from valleys and areas where water accumulates and to avoid trips and recreational activities in low-lying areas, especially around the Dead Sea.
The department further advised against attempting to cross roads where water is flowing, whether by vehicle or on foot. It called on the public to follow weather bulletins and warnings and comply with instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
The Meteorological Department emphasised that the risk of flash floods is not limited to areas experiencing heavy rainfall, as rainwater can flow from nearby highlands through valley channels and reach low-lying areas suddenly.
