Turkish authorities announced early Wednesday that an F-16 fighter jet crashed in the Balıkesir province, northwestern Turkey, resulting in the death of its pilot.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed the incident in a statement on the "X" platform, stating that "radio communication and tracking data for one of our F-16 aircraft, which took off from Balıkesir Air Base at 9:00 PM, was lost at exactly 12:56 AM local time."
The Ministry's statement added: "As a result of the search and rescue operations initiated immediately, it was determined that the aircraft had crashed. The wreckage was located, and the pilot was confirmed martyred (killed)."
The statement further noted that the cause of the accident will be determined following an official investigation conducted by the crash site investigation team.
