Speaking on the sidelines of the European Council meeting in Brussels, Kallas added that she has maintained diplomatic contacts with Iran to "find various solutions." She stressed that in her upcoming communications, she would raise the issue of the execution of a Swedish citizen, alongside "all outstanding issues" with Tehran.

Navigation and Global Supply Chains
Regarding maritime security, Kallas explained that the European Union is working with the United Nations to establish a safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz. She pointed out that the disruption of oil, gas, fertilizer, and food transit through the strait "poses a real problem, particularly for Asia and Africa," due to current security risks.

Ukraine and Regional Linkages
On the Ukrainian front, Kallas mentioned that European leaders would discuss ways to move forward with the support loan agreed upon in December, asserting that "it is time to show support for Ukraine."

Kallas drew a direct link between the conflict in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine, noting that Russia "benefits from the war in the Middle East." She concluded that ending the current regional war is essential to achieving a solution in Ukraine that is "not a total surrender to Russia."
