In an initial statement, the Ministry confirmed: "The Israeli enemy’s raid on Sidon led to the martyrdom of 8 citizens and the injury of 22 others." Local media outlets reported that the strike hit the city’s waterfront, broadcasting footage showing significant destruction at a local cafe.

Witnesses saw fires breaking out in the cafe while shattered glass littered the road. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze as the Lebanese Army cordoned off the area. Several parked vehicles at the site were also damaged.

Wide-Scale Raids in the South
The strike followed an evacuation warning issued by the Israeli army to residents of Tyre on Tuesday night, as strikes continued across multiple regions.

According to a tally by Anadolu Agency, Israel has launched air and artillery attacks on 66 areas in southern Lebanon since early Tuesday. The bombardment targeted various cities and towns, including Bint Jbeil, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, and Abbassiyeh, causing extensive damage to homes and buildings.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli occupation army announced it had targeted a new bridge over the Litani River, bringing the total number of targeted bridges to seven since the start of its expanded aggression on March 2.

Lebanese authorities report that the expanded Israeli aggression has resulted in 1,530 deaths, 4,812 injuries, and the displacement of over one million people.

Regional Context and Ceasefire Announcement
This escalation is part of the ongoing war launched by Israel and the United States against Iran since February 28, 2026. The conflict has left thousands dead and injured and has included high-profile assassinations, including the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In a major development early Wednesday, the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire agreement. During this period, negotiations will take place to reach a final agreement between the two parties.
