Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Monday a package of nine immediate measures against Israel in response to what he described as the “genocide” being committed in the Gaza Strip.

The urgent measures include issuing a royal decree-law to enforce a permanent ban on the sale of weapons and ammunition to Israel, prohibiting the transit of weapons-carrying ships through Spanish ports, and denying any aerial passage for defense materials over Spanish airspace.
Spain will also ban entry into its territory for anyone directly involved in the “genocide” and prevent any occupation activities that force the displacement of Gaza residents.
Other decisions include restricting consular services for residents in illegal Palestinian settlements and increasing support for the Palestinian Authority through new projects in agriculture and healthcare, in addition to strengthening border controls.
Sánchez further announced an additional contribution of €10 million to UNRWA for Gaza relief, raising Spain’s total humanitarian aid to €150 million.
These steps follow negotiations between the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and its coalition partner, the Sumar party, ahead of approval at the cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
Sumar leader and second vice prime minister Yolanda Díaz confirmed that both parties are working together to adopt these measures, following her party’s proposals last week, which included declaring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “persona non grata.”
