Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on X that he was "shocked by the news of the serious train accident in Toledo," expressing his "sympathy, solidarity and support to all the victims and their families," according to Reuters.
The accident involved a train operated by Renfe and another operated by Iryo. Renfe train No. 2080 collided with Iryo train No. 6076 near the entrance to Oropesa station. Two rear carriages of the Iryo train derailed.
The collision prompted the suspension of train services in both directions along the high-speed rail line connecting Madrid and Andalusia, according to Spain's railway infrastructure manager, Adif.
Emergency services in the Castilla-La Mancha region deployed Civil Guard personnel, fire engines, civil protection teams and ambulances. Authorities also began setting up an advanced medical post to provide care to those injured and affected by the accident.
